Fact sheets showing Sweden's exports and imports
The National Board of Trade's trade statistics fact sheets present an overview of Sweden's exports and imports of goods. Here you can find statistics on Sweden's foreign trade with individual countries and regions.
Important units
The National Board of Trade's trade statistics fact sheets show Sweden's exports and imports. It is possible to obtain statistics on Sweden's foreign trade for individual countries, as well as for regions. Generally, the figures are given in millions of Swedish kronor (SEK). Where the value of the total trade with the country is modest, the value is instead expressed in thousands of SEK. In the final row of each table, Sweden’s total export and import is given as a point of reference. The values for Sweden’s total exports and imports are always given in millions of SEK.
Statistics taken from Statistics Sweden
The fact sheets are based on trade data from Statistics Sweden (SCB). To continuously keep the fact sheets up to date, statistics are retrieved on a monthly basis from Statistics Sweden's trade statistics database. The statistics are first aggregated and cleared of confidential information. Thereafter, an automatic selection is made to ensure that the fact sheets show the most relevant product groups for Swedish trade with the country or region of interest.
Read the statistics like this:
- The first set of columns shows Sweden's trade with a given country or region in the past five years (six years for full-year tables).
- For tables covering part of the current year, trade for this period for both the current year and previous year are listed in a separate pair of columns.
- The next pair of columns shows trade for the relevant period of current year, and most recent complete year, compared to the same period from the previous period/year.
- The penultimate pair of columns indicates Swedish exports/imports of goods to/from a given country/region as a proportion of total exports/imports to/from that country or region.
- The final column gives Sweden's exports/imports of the commodity to/from the country or region as a proportion of total exports/imports of that commodity.
Division into groups of commodities
The commodity groups in the fact sheets are classified according to the System of International Trade Classification (SITC), an international commodity classification scheme. Multi-digit commodity groups work as sub-groups to the single digit commodity groups that are highlighted in bold and serve as main commodity groups. For example, Group 54 "Medicinal and pharmaceutical products", constitutes a sub-group of Group 5 "Chemical and related products, n.e.s.”
Only relevant commodities
Since only the most relevant product groups are included in the factsheets, the sum of the items listed does not equal the total. For this reason, the total exports/imports with regard to the country in question are presented in the penultimate row. The last row presents Sweden’s total exports/imports, for purposes of comparison.
